A bee see ...

The bees that have made their home in the little insect house are much busier than last years bees ... but, is it my imagination they appear to be very scruffy workers ...
Insect house with bee chambers on Tuesday, 22 July 2008 - first bamboo cane chamber is being sealed by circular leaf portion collected by the leaf cutter bee
Second bamboo cane has leaf cutter bee entering empty chamber Busy bees with more chambers being sealed
Fuchsia leaves that have been sculptured by the leaft cutter bees who carry a portion at a time back to their hive (insect house)
More circles cut from the golden leafed fuchsia

Is that Fucshia a "Genii"? I have one of those in my front garden. The leaves get a brighter shade of yellow if you keep them in deeper shade.

These Bee post are great. How old is this insect house?

I'm not sure what the Fuchsia is called but will try and check when I next go the the nursery where I purchased it from. This particular one is in the shade but it seems to produce darker leaves than the one by the pond which is in sunlight for most of the day.

Robert - the insect house is now two years old. It was purchased from B&Q and I must be honest we did have to put a few screws in it as the wood wasn't seasoned. It has been worth buying though as it is very entertaining watching bees to and fro. Sometimes one bee will bombard another bee and they will drop their leaf circle ... their is usually at least one bossy bee!
