Every year when potting out my tubs, baskets and odd flowerpots with plants I usually use a mixture of commercial potting compost and the rich dark loam produced by my own compost bins. Once in a while this gives me some unusual surprises. Here is this year’s surprise … a happy pumpkin plant nestling alongside the geraniums and fuchsia in one of my baskets. The little pumpkin plant has now come into flower …

I have several of these pumpkin plants along with tomato plants dotted around the garden where I have spread the rich soil produced in the compost bin!

Polly it is just lovely. I can't wait until Walter retires and we can truly garden again.
We always compost when he was home all the time.
I don't do it now because of snakes. they, just like your precious lovely little bloom would also find it a nice place to winter!!
Happy day!!
Jackie:-)
What a great surprise. How much will it take over the rest of the flowers though as it grows?
It's a beautiful flower. Tell it so. Have you got room to let it grow?
I had eaten pumpkin, but this was the first time I was seeing its flower. Like the bright yellow color.
That is really a lovely surprise!! Too bad the pumpkins didn't get an earlier start...you could have picked your own jack o'lanterns ;D
great looking plants. Veges are so pretty! {:-D
We composted our Halloween pumpkins last year and low and behold, had large numbers of pumpkin plants growing out of the bin this summer! I had to take the side off to let them grow and get sunshine. We had many flowers but only one pumpkin. It was harvested by my daughter and we turned it into pumpkin bread. :) Talk about unexpected recycling!
excellent pumpkin plants....will you let them produce??? what will you do with the pumpkins????
That is wonderful.Nice to see what is going to pop up from the compost.
I suggest you sign on with adgitize. It doesn't cost anything to place the widget and you will get a few cents for having it up.I'll keep everyone informed as to how it is going.I am going to post my stats once a week. As soon as the new price goes in to effect.
