It is Sunday and although it is early, my Christmas cactus is at last in flower. This is a very special variety as it resembles a beautiful angel - but that is not the only reason why I like this particular plant. It is slightly different to its cousin the standard pink Christmas cactus - the leaves are much thinner and slightly leathery with a dark plum serrated finish to their edges. The flowers are more open like slender waisted ladies with open skirts and wings. It is truly angelic as it thrives - no matter how bad a person might be at keeping plants.
My plant is kept on a sunny windowsill slightly out of reach of direct sunlight and receives an occasional splash of water it is very slow growing and every year, around Christmas time it produces small 'white angels' at the tips of its leaves. Magical ...

first time i've seen a cactus angel, it's beautiful.
I have never seen one of these and it is very lovely!!! I really enjoy the variety of plants and nature that you always post about!
I posted several awards for you on my blog tonight :)
It's beautiful.
My dad had a plant like that in his office, one with red flowers.
It was huge and flowering all over.
That's lovely. I have a few Christmas Cactus, but I've never seen one like that.
I would think a Christmas cactus would be red, not white.
I tagged you for a bookworm meme at http://karenzemek.blogspot.com/2008/11/bookworm-meme-ive-been-tagged.html Hope you don't mind. It's an easy one!
We have a Christmas Cactus in flower at the moment. It is a pink variety but I do not know the name. Nice to see flowers in the winter months.
I have never been able to get any Christmas plant to bloom. so I finally just gave up.
And I think they are so beautiful!!
Good for you this one is really special!!:-)))
That's beautiful! I can't get mine to bloom for anything.
I remember that cactus from my grandmother who has several of them. I'd better stay away from any plants and flowers... they are never surviving in my home ;-)
Oh my Polly I just finished up with what has to be a marathon of awards. It's a long long post.
But, I made a little something just to say thank you to everybody.

Thank you. Your Christmas Cactus looks fine indeed. While viewing it I reminded that beautiful flowers may hurt the careless hand too. Isn't that symbolical?
Thanks again
Oh my gosh Polly I forgot to contact you.
I have something for you. It's the world record breaking award post I do think.
