It is terrifying how far some people will go to enlarge their egos. The latest craze in pet accessories is the ‘pet’ tattoo. To tattoo an animal can at best be described as cruel at worst a type of blasphemy. For no matter whatever a person’s beliefs may be … we live on a truly magnificent planet with a wonderful mixture of wildlife that are all very beautiful in their own right. The human race appears to be riddled with all kinds of insecurities some induce a type of morphing of perception of shape and form which induces many to either indulge in plastic surgery, body piercings or tattoos. To carry these insecurities by performing the same onto pets is an abomination … surely there cannot be many people who actually think that this is a good thing to do? Tattooing animals can only be done when the animal is anesthetised – they are kept asleep for approximately three hours – not only does this put their lives at risk but what about the pain and soreness endured afterwards?
Poor, poor animal – I hope that when this kind of cruelty occurs, people are reported and their animals siezed … perhaps a stay in prison for the owners to reflect would not be unjust?

I agree totally with you. Your pets don't have a say and rely on your better judgment on how to care for them. Get your head out of your arse!!!

That is just wrong! Those owners should have their pets taken from them and the vet who does it should have his license pulled.

Now that is just disgusting, these people do indeed need locking away, the poor animals, maybe the people responsible should have the word "PRAT" tattooed on their foreheads!!
This is crazy! I can't stop another from having a tattoo because that is the other person's right of choice. However, who has the right to determine if a pet want to get a tattoo or not? The owner? What I can say is that the owner only own the pet but not the pet's life.
Who acts as an anesthetist? Wouldn't it have to be a veterinarian?

This is completely horrifying to me! Why would anyone want to do this? I just don't get it!
THe owner must see this as unique beauty but truly, this is torture. I am all afraid of needles, just cant imagine the pain this dog had had!
Oh my goodness...a tattoo??? I can't believe somebody would do such a thing! Some time ago, we had a beautiful white boxer. Well, beautiful to us. He had one blue eye and one brown eye, several brown spots (we thought he was a dalmation wannabe)and a tongue that, if it was any longer, he'd trip over it. Our vet suggested we shorten his tongue. The tongue didn't bother the dog and it was a source of constant amusement for us...he could clean a patio door in seconds...I asked the vet why I would do such a thing. The vet said "for cosmetic purposes". They would cut the tip of the tongue off, cut off what wasn't needed and sew the tip of the tongue back on. Have you ever just bitten your tongue? OMG, it's excruciating! The vet said he did it a lot to show animals. I asked him to please look at this poor animal and decide if he would EVER be a show dog...I never went back to that vet!
Whoa, I never saw this one before! It's so upsetting that people can be so cruel!!!!! I sure hope this doesn't catch on and happen often. Guess some people will do anything for money.

Should have seen this coming when people started dressing dogs in sweaters. First of all, dogs don't have sweat glands.
Somebody mentioned PETA...I can only imagine what extreme levels ignorance they will stoop to in order to get their point across on this issue.
This is bad.. It is very sad to see something like this. Like you said, some people tattoo themselves maybe to hide their insecurities or maybe they're vain (whichever way they want to look at it) and that's their choice. But doing it on their pets, who cannot voice out their disagreement, is very very cruel. And to put them in such an ordeal (unconscious) for such a period of time.. I can't imagine..
The problem with people nowadays is that they lack humanity. Many are too focused on material things or things that excites them instead of things that helps others (human or animals). I hate seeing something like this. Because I believe animals should also be treated with respect!
And people dont consider that cruelty?
I mean, if you have a hairless pet that you think a tattoo wold be cute on, there is no need for a REAL tattoo that is painful for the pet! Just get a press on tattoo. They even make special computer paper to print your own tattoos! It wille ventually come off, but its 100% painless for the pet!

I can't agree with you more, Polly. It's totally gross! I loathe people who are too cruel to animals. I once blogged about how I fought for our puppy who was almost battered to death by our neighbor. I went at their house and confronted the man who did such a crime. But he was irrational. I can't seem to fathom why those people treat animals so unkindly!
And what reputable tattoo artist would do such a thing? Dreadful
