June

Flaming June, as it once was affectionately known, is here! June is a wonderful month and full of meadow flowers. One of my favourites is the Ox-eye-daisy which is often found on the road side verges bobbing its head as motorists speed past. Another - is the sweet smelling flower that winds its slender branches through the hawthorn - this is the honeysuckle or woodbine. This smells exceptionally fragrent especially after a gentle shower or in the early evening as the dew begins to descend. This is the month of special days . . . St Barnabas Day - 11th June The longest day - 23rd June Midsummer Day - 24th June St Peter's Day - 29th June

June sayings:

"Warm very early - cool very late."

"Mow your first grass on St Barnabas!"

"A blue moon in June will bring true love soon."

Mini note: a blue moon is when the moon has a halo or ring all around it - often the ring is a wide band and hazy.
