Some used to believe that the health of the people in the coming Winter may be determined by the weather in August.
- ‘A damp August will bring despair.’
Nowadays we do not have the concerns of a month-by-month changing weather pattern at least not in the superstitions of the past.
- ‘Augusts’ hue will bring the dew.’
It was claimed that the first dews of Summer would arrive in the last week of August.
Years ago maidens would collect the dew to wash their faces as it was thought to make the skin clear and a young lady beautiful.
